How to Enroll in Benefits

Welcome to the benefits enrollment page for Nova Southeastern University employees. Here, you will find clear instructions and comprehensive guidelines to help you navigate the enrollment process. Our robust benefits package is designed to support your health, well-being, and financial security, ensuring you have the resources you need to thrive both personally and professionally.

 

Eligibility 

  • Full-time Employees & Faculty = Eligible for life insurance, long and short term disability, medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, tuition waiver, retirement saving plans, and all other voluntary/optional benefits.

  • Part-time Employees who work 28 or more hours per week = Eligible for life insurance, long and short term disability,  medical, dental, vision, tuition waiver, and retirement saving plans.

  • Part-time Employees who work 27 or less hours per week = Eligible for life insurance, long and short term disability, , dental, vision, tuition waiver, and retirement saving plans.

  • One-Year Employees = Eligibility determined by the number of hours scheduled and will therefore align with either full-time or part-time benefit options.

  • Adjunct Faculty = Not eligible for benefits unless minimum work requirement and plan entry rules are otherwise met.

  • Temporary / Substitute employees / Independent contractors = Not eligible for benefits.

 

Rules & Guidelines

  • The benefits plan year at NSU begins on April 1st and end on March 31st of the following year.

  • Deductibles and out-of-pocket limits are reset on April 1st.

  • Newly hired employees must make elections or waive coverage within 30 days of their date of hire. 

  • Employees who fail to enroll in benefits within the 30 days allotted, will have their benefits waived.

  • Benefits become active the 1st of the month coincident with or following month of hire

  • Income protection plans like life insurance, disability, and optional life insurance, become effective 90 days after your hire date.

  • It is common that a premium or two may be missed after enrolling due to the payroll schedule. If this happens, employees will be notified and arrears will be collected as an additional deduction on their paychecks.

  • Employees are able to make changes to their election at any time due to a qualifying life event or during our annual open enrollment, which is typically held in February.
