Veteran Academic Services at NSU

Nova Southeastern University recognizes the challenges veterans face in transitioning to academics. To ensure your smooth transition, we provide personalized assistance to guide you through course selection, academic planning, and university policies. We also offer specialized programs designed to help you adjust to the college environment, develop strong study skills, and connect with a network of fellow student-veterans – all with the goal of empowering you to achieve academic success at NSU.

Undergraduate Academic Advising

The Undergraduate Academic Advising Center assists armed service members, veterans, their spouses, and dependents in transitioning into college life and ensuring ongoing academic success.

Our services include:

  • Assisting student-veterans and families in adapting to college life and ensuring continuous academic achievement
  • Building supportive connections and nurturing self-assurance
  • Supporting student-veterans and families during their higher-education journey
  • Offering compassionate listening and serving as a source for referrals and support
  • Educating student-veterans and families on university rules and processes

ArmyIgnited at NSU

NSU proudly participates in the ArmyIgnited program, a comprehensive support initiative tailored for active, reserve, and National Guard soldiers. Designed to empower eligible active-duty National Guard and Army Reserve soldiers, this program provides NSU students with:

  • access to diverse educational opportunities, including both classroom-based and distance learning options.
  • tuition assistance and financial support to facilitate their educational endeavors.
  • resources to help soldiers manage their education records, covering college classes, examinations, and on-duty courses.
  • support and guidance from Army educational counselors and dedicated school representatives.

Transfer and Academic Support Services

The Office of Transfer Evaluation Services assists prospective and current undergraduate and graduate students with transferring courses from other regionally accredited institutions.

Our services include:

  • Evaluation of credits from all prior regionally accredited institutions
  • Evaluation of military credits, including Joint Services Transcript (JST)/Community College of the Air Force (CCAF)
  • Acceptance of College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and the DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST) examination with appropriate passing scores

Credit can be awarded through the Full Portfolio or Course Challenge process for life experience. The Transfer Credit System can be used to determine how courses will transfer to NSU from previously attended institutions.

Alvin Sherman Library: Your Research Powerhouse

Get expert research help online or in-person at the Alvin Sherman Library Research, and Information Technology Center. Librarians guide you via chat, text, email, or appointments. Borrow materials from across the globe, delivered to your doorstep (free!). The library's accessible facilities also include an Assistive Technology Room and free Wi-Fi. Family members in Broward County can join too.

Tutoring and Testing Services

The Tutoring and Testing Center is here for you! The center provides one-on-one tutoring in various subjects to help you excel in your courses. Need help with test prep or navigating exams? The TTC offers specialized testing services and a supportive environment to ensure your success. We believe in empowering veterans to achieve their academic goals through active learning and critical thinking skills development.
