Trauma-Informed Care Symposium

NSU's Title IX Office, in collaboration with the Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine and Student Affairs, are hosting a symposium, Empowering Healthcare Professionals through Trauma-Informed Practices, at the NSU Tampa Bay Regional Campus on April 27, 2024.  All NSU students and employees are welcome to attend, but sessions are geared towards students in healthcare and psychology programs. Based on the number of participants, the schedule has been adjusted to ensure all attendees receive the information from all presenters.

Date: April 27, 2024

Time: 10:00am-4:00pm

Location: NSU Tampa Bay Regional Campus

Registration: Register here by April 19

As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, NSU's Title IX Office seeks to empower healthcare professions students to understand and be able to employ trauma-informed practices in their professions. Trauma-informed care involves shifting from asking patients and clients "what's wrong with you?" to "what happened to you?" and involves treating the individual holistically. This symposium brings community experts from the Tampa Bay area to educate NSU students about various forms of trauma - including child abuse, human trafficking, and domestic violence - and to discuss strategies for serving patients who may have experienced these. Learn more about trauma-informed care, and other resources to help your healthcare practice.
  • Keynote: Bettina Haynes, APRN, FNP-C, CCPTMP, Nurse Practitioner
