Effective July 1, 2011, a student may receive federal financial aid (Title IV funds) for a repeated course only once if the course was previously passed (credit has been received).

The Office of Financial Aid does not determine if a student may repeat a class, only whether a student may be eligible for financial aid for a repeat class. For more information on your academic program's policy regarding repeat coursework or grade forgiveness, contact your academic adviser. In addition, every repeated course affects Satisfactory Academic Progress calculations; all repeated courses are counted as attempted credits.

Example 1

Tania takes MATH 1040 in the fall 2025 semester. She receives a C- grade and 3 credits for the course. She decides to retake the course in the winter 2020 semester in order to improve her grade and GPA. However, for her repeat class she receives an F grade and no credits. In the fall 2026, she decides to retake the course for a third time. The chart below displays her financial aid eligibility.
