Letter from the Editor

Do you ever wonder where the dog days of summer term came from? According to one source, the term Dog Days was coined in ancient Rome, and was named after the star Sirius, the Dog Star, which is the brightest star besides the sun. It was thought that due to the rising and setting of Sirius at around the same time of the sun each day this time of year, that Sirius added it's heat to the sun's heat, thereby making the days hotter. Hence the term Dogs Days. Want to learn more stuff like this? Click here for English idioms.

3. Electronic databases contain information from published works like magazines,
newspaper articles, encyclopaedias and other reference books. Unlike websites, databases get their information from professionals and experts in the field, contain published works where facts are checked, have easy to access citations, are extremely organized by topic and constantly updated. As a student, you are expected to obtain your research from databases.
Use your ASL card to access databases either in the library or from anywhere on your home or office computer. For a complete listing of our databases, click here.
Below are some of our more popular databases.
