NSU University School Viewpoint Fall/Winter 2017

8 n NSU UNIVERSITY SCHOOL LOWER SCHOOL The program evolved over the years and is now known as the Lower School BRIDGES program. “The name reflects my desire to bridge the gap between a strong need for support and the ability to work independently,” Brennan said. While BRIDGES is a full-time resource program that provides a wide array of academic, social, speech, and language support, its sister program, The Learning Center (TLC), offers a part-time program where students spend one period per day getting help in either reading or math. Both programs offer exceptional support for Lower School students. “BRIDGES and TLC are equipped with extremely cohesive and talented faculty members who are receptive to change. They are passionate and committed. You won’t find a better team,” Brennan said. When considering a legacy gift to NSU University School, Brennan chose a naming opportunity in the Lower School—a wing for BRIDGES and TLC students called the Dr. Elizabeth Brennan Center for Academic Success. “Teaching and learning are my passion,” Brennan said. “This gift seemed most appropriate and meaningful. In my own right, I’ve created a mark in education, and I’m satisfied with that.” n The Bridges team, from left, Anabel Amador, Anais Armada, Suzy Coe, SaVita Taylor, Brittney Coe, Penny Scheffing, and Barbara Bellamy continued from page 6
