NSU University School VIEWPOINT Spring 2019

22 DAVID LANG C L A S S O F 1 9 9 9 After graduating from NSU University School, David Lang attended Duke University. During the summer of his freshman year, he secured an interview with WPLG Local 10 newscaster Dwight Lauderdale and landed a summer internship with the station. Lang must have truly enjoyed the experience because he’s been working for the same station ever since. He has worked his way up the professional ladder to become the Executive Sports Producer. He credits his success in the industry to his ability to think on his feet and tell a story that resonates with audiences. Lang entered USchool in fourth grade and graduated having learned the true value of service. During his time here, he discovered his passion for media production, speech and debate, and theatre. While at school, he learned that “every work you do is an autobiography of yourself.” Lang advises, “Start doing. The only limitations in life should be how hard you want to work.” Lang encourages USchool students to utilize available resources and broaden their education. “I succeeded,” he said, “because I treated every class and every internship like it was a job. I identified problems that needed solving andmademyself useful. Andwhen a door opened a crack, I kicked it down.” It took Lang years of hard work, persistence, a singular vision, and “fighting for what you want” to get him where he is today. After his long hiatus from USchool, he returned to campus to find many exciting changes. He marveled at the TV production studio, which didn’t yet exist when he was a student, and raved about our athletics programs. Lang never imagined that his alma mater would have a football team, let alone a state championship team. He’s proud every time Local 10 reports on the burgeoning careers of athletes like Vernon Carey, Jr. and Scotty Barnes, and even prouder to be back at his school, sharing his story and experiences with the next generation. Lang is grateful for the many opportunities in his life to do what he loves most and thanks his USchool teachers for their contribution to his success.
