Page 34 o The reassessed formative grade replaces original grade in Backpack; a note will be inserted to indicate date of reassessment and original grade will be recorded in the assignment comment section. Summative assessments are completed after the learning experiences and after one or more formatives have occurred and they usually require students to demonstrate mastery of all the essential understandings, though they can be explored over several different tasks. Summative assessments are not intended as practice, and therefore , are not subject to reassessment. In the process of examining formative measurements and summative assessments, teachers are encouraged to utilize alternative assessments in place of some traditional quizzes and tests. The use of alternative assessments for midterm and/or final exams is also encouraged. EXTRA HELP SESSIONS Students who are experiencing academic difficulty are encouraged to seek help from their classroom teachers. Teachers are normally available after school on specified days for approximately 30 minutes. Teachers will notify students of their extra help times, which may be scheduled before or after school as well as during lunch and break. For lower school students, extra help is available only after school. ACADEMIC ACCOMMODATIONS Students in need of special academic accommodations, including extended timed testing, must have current documentation on file with the school. Contact the guidance counselor for specific details. GRANTING OF CREDITS Students who receive a failing grade at the end of a course will not receive credit for the course. TRANSFER CREDITS Students enrolling in Upper School at the beginning of the year and seeking transfer credits must earn the following credits from University School to qualify for graduation: Those entering 9th grade, 24 credits; 10th grade, 18 credits; 11th grade, 12 credits; and, 12th grade, 6 credits. University School will accept and classify transfer credits earned or grade placement from schools that are accredited by a recognized national, regional, or state accrediting agency. University School may accept credits or grade placement from non-accredited or International schools under certain conditions. See the counseling office for more information regarding transfer credits. PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS In order to qualify for specific grade-level status, a student must have earned the number of credits identified below by the first day of the school year. Sophomore status: 6 credits. junior status: 12 credits; senior status: 18 credits. ACADEMIC PROBATION At the end of each official grading period, students whose academic average falls below C or who are failing (F) a course will be placed on academic probation for the subsequent quarter. Students on academic probation are not permitted to participate in extracurricular or co-curricular activities including athletics, forensics, school productions, and other programs of the school until the probationary status is removed. This status is reviewed at the end of each official grading period by the administration. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
