Page 31 LEVEL CHANGES Classes taken in middle and high school are a reflection of a student’s interests, achievements, and abilities. Course selections are important decisions and each student is encouraged to increase his or her reach, particularly in a field of interest. The challenge is for each student to choose classes and levels that will enable him or her to achieve academic success. The chart below should serve as a guideline for level changes. Please consider each class separately. For instance, to move from English 11 Regular to English 12 Honors, consider your son’s or daughter’s English 11 average and keep in mind the following: Anticipated Homework 20-30 minutes per night. Occasional long-term assignments required Student can expect 20–30 minutes per night with occasional long-term assignments required. Student can expect 30–45 minutes per night with additional long-term reading and project assignments. In a college-level course, homework generally exceeds 1 hour per night, with additional long-term reading and project assignments. After school AP labs/study groups will be required periodically throughout the year. Students must take the associated AP exam, except for seniors, for whom the exam is optional. Honors Plus course will have additional long-term reading, projects, and alternative assessments.
