Oreintation 2020 | nsucurrent.nova.edu 16 Lifestyle Ways to spend your weekends around NSU The area around NSU is teeming to the brim with stuff to do. So if you are new to the area or are just looking for a new adventure, here are some great suggestions. Some are free and some are a little pricey, but there is no doubt that there is something for everyone. NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale 1 E Las Olas Blvd Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 On the top of the free list is NSU’s very own art museum. This museum is only 15-20 minutes away from campus and a great way to spend a day. The museum provides free admission for all NSU students with their SharkCard, with the only cost coming from parking. On weekends, the Shark Shuttle also offers rides to the museum. The exhibits change from time to time, so if you have not been recently, it is always a great experience to go again. The Alchemist 2430 NE 13th Ave Wilton Manors, FL 33305 Having been at NSU for only a year, I have noticed that students frequently enjoy going to brunch. Whether it be a new trend or just a good thing to do because of the brunch places in the area, it is a great way to spend the first half of your day. One popular suggestion would be The Alchemist, a rustic-chic coffee and brunch shop that offers great outdoor seating for all your social media photo needs. Wynwood Walls 2520 NW 2nd Ave Miami, FL 33127 A popular attraction in South Florida and another great spot to spend the day looking at some interesting art are at the Wynwood Walls. The outdoor park is located approximately 30 minutes from campus near Miami Beach. The destination features large scale murals and thought-provoking art installations. The park is also free, making it a great way to spend a sunny day. Las Olas Boulevard E Las Olas Blvd Fort Lauderdale, FL Las Olas Boulevard features plenty of eateries and things to do both in the daytime and at night. This popular street is the go-to spot for many students in the area and definitely worth checking out. In the daytime, it is worth it to not only walk down this happening street, but also visit the river walk that runs parallel to it. At night, there are a handful of happening clubs that are both 18+ and 21+. Beaches An obvious choice to spend a day would be at the beach, and luckily enough, there are plenty to choose from in South Florida. Dania Beach is the closest to NSU’s campus, so if you want a short drive and a nice beach, this is your go to. Fort Lauderdale Beach is a little farther out, but it is a popular spot for college students in the area. However, My personal favorite is Hollywood Beach. This one has the longest drive, but the smaller crowds and cute boardwalk, known as the Broadwalk, are worth the trip. PRINTED WITH PERMISSION FROM F.
