13 2021 NOMINEES FOR Alumni of the Year Madeline Camejo, Pharm.D.—College of Pharmacy Madeline Camejo was born and raised in South Florida. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University’s College of Pharmacy in 1997 with her Pharm.D. degree and went on to complete an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Administration Residency at Broward General Medical Center. She has been an innovative pharmacy executive for more than 25 years, changing pharmacy practices for three major health care systems—Broward Health, Memorial Healthcare System, and, most recently, Baptist Health South Florida, which she joined in 2018 as the new corporate vice president and chief pharmacy officer. Camejo is a proud Shark and believes in NSU’s mission to educate and develop inclusive leaders in the practice of pharmacy who will deliver optimal patient care. Throughout her career, she has had a passion for teaching and mentoring students about the pharmacy profession and has been a pharmacy preceptor for NSU since 2001. She helped fund NSU’s first Future Summit and continues to give back to the university by participating in many students’ career activities and lectures over the last 20 years. Catherine Samuel-Barrett, Psy.D.—College of Psychology Catherine Barrett is an alumna of NSU’s School Psychology program and has been affiliated with NSU since 2007. During her time as a student at NSU, Barrett was impressed with NSU’s dedication to fostering a commitment to lifelong learning, advocacy, and professional excellence. The promotion of these values throughout her time at NSU left a lasting impression on her. They have guided her professional practice throughout the years as well in her roles in local- and state-level professional organizations; as a mentor to interns and early-career school psychologists; and as an administrator for psychological services in a large, urban school district. Marc G. Kaprow, D.O.—Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine While at Nova Southeastern University, Marc Kaprow became one of the first Presidential Knights (student ambassadors), representing the college in 1997. He graduated from what was then called the College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001. His commitment to community and the osteopathic profession has allowed him to serve as a clinical assistant professor for more than a decade and has led him to be the current president of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association. In these roles, he has continued to support osteopathic students, residents, and his colleagues throughout the state of Florida. Kaprow also volunteers his services as a board-certified internal medicine specialist with Shepherd’s Hope, a central Florida clinic that serves the working poor and uninsured near his home in Oviedo, Florida. Wilford Miranda, B.S.—Halmos College of Arts and Sciences Wilford Miranda is the microbiology/forensic teacher at NSU University School. He graduated with a B.S. in Biology from the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences in 2019 and is currently enrolled in the Master of Science Education program. Miranda is most proud of his work for expanding experiential learning experiences at NSU by working with Dr. Raja on developing/implementing the Tiny Earth Curriculum and starting a highly competitive HOSA: Future Health Professionals Chapter at NSU University School. He believes that NSU’s greatest strength is bringing diverse and talented individuals together through experiential learning experiences in different fields. Miranda feels at home with NSU because he has the opportunity to work with a diverse group of students across a variety of different competitive paths, such as science fairs, HOSA, and research symposiums.
