Return of the Sharks: Student Guidelines

3 2 In charting a path forward amid the ever-changing circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is committed to providing students, faculty, staff, and our community with an environment where scholarship, research, leadership, creative expression, and career preparation can continue to thrive. We are here to help you pursue your college dream, earn your degree, build a meaningful and enriching career, and lead a purposeful life. That’s the NSU Edge. Under these extraordinary conditions, your physical health and well-being are of the utmost concern, and your emotional, intellectual, professional, social, spiritual, and personal health are all also essential. That’s what a university experience is all about. And we are here to deliver that experience, while providing you with choices and provisions to maximize your safety. NSU Students Have Choices Whether you are a new or returning student… whether you are here for your bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, or professional degree... whether you’ve chosen to enroll in fully online, hybrid, or in-person courses this year… whether you will join us at our Davie/Fort Lauderdale campus, one of our regional campuses, or have chosen to learn remotely this fall… this Return of the Sharks Student Guide will give you information to help you chart your own course this fall. This guidebook is designed primarily for those students, faculty, staff, and visitors who will be accessing NSU locations, facilities, grounds, and spaces starting in the fall semester/ term. Whether you have chosen on-campus residence hall living, nearby off-campus housing, or commuting from home, these guidelines will let you know what safety provisions and protocols will be in place at NSU when you return to Shark Nation. Remember, even if you previously signed up for in-person classes this fall—but you now feel safer remaining at home at this time—you can still return (or start) as an NSU student who elects to take all of your in-person courses remotely for the fall semester for the majority of course offerings. There may be certain courses, typically but not always limited to graduate and professional programs, that do not lend themselves to remote education, including certain clinical or laboratory components. Exceptions to this include certain health professions courses, labs, or clinical requirements. Additionally, there are some conditions for undergraduate scholarships, Razor’s Edge programs, Resident Assistant appointments, and Athletics that require on-campus activities. If you’re not sure, please contact your academic adviser. But if circumstances dictate, or you have strong preferences and are not otherwise required to be on campus for your financial aid/ scholarship package, you are most welcome to remain a remote learning student this fall—as you may have done this past spring. We respect and support your choice and personal preference.
