This guide provides information to support you during your Shark Preview experience and resources that can assist you throughout your time at NSU. Your Shark Preview will not only be a meaningful and informative experience, but you are about to embark on the experience of a lifetime. Your time at NSU is not only about being successful academically, but also about engaging in all that we have to offer. I cannot wait to be a part of and to witness all that you do here. 2 STUDENT GUIDE PREMIER PROGRAMS INTERVIEW SUMMARIES Dual Admission Programs Allopathic Medicine Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Doctor of Medicine program will have the opportunity to visit the College of Allopathic Medicine and tour the facilities. The associate dean, college faculty and/or admission representative will conduct formal interviews in groups of six or less students. The questions will evaluate candidates’ passion, focus, and commitment for the medical profession and for the dual admission program, as well as ability to work collaboratively in a case-based learning environment. Application materials, test scores, and transcripts will be reviewed in advance of the interviews. The interview and tour will last approximately 60 minutes. Anesthesia Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Health Science in Anesthesia program will interview with the program director in the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences, either one-on-one or in a small group of three or less. The questions will be focused on the candidate’s practical medical experience, basic knowledge of surgical procedures and related duties, and overall patient advocacy. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Audiology Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Doctor of Audiology program will have the opportunity to visit the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences. An audiology faculty member will conduct formal interviews with candidates in a small group of two or one-on-one. The questions focus on the candidate’s interest in NSU and the audiology program, previous personal experiences, and current issues in health care. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Business Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the below business programs will have the opportunity to visit the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship. The associate or assistant dean, or a faculty member, will conduct formal interviews in groups of three or less, with individualized time designated for each student. The questions will focus on communication skills, teamwork, and how students will impact the university community. Conflict Analysis and Resolution Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution in the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences will interview one-on-one with a faculty member in the program. Couple and Family Therapy Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Couple and Family Therapy program will interview one-on-one with a faculty member in the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. The questions will focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Criminal Justice Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Criminal Justice will interview one-on-one with a faculty member in the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice. The questions will focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Cybersecurity Management Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Cybersecurity Management program will interview one-on-one with a faculty member in the College of Computing and Engineering. The questions focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes.

3 NSU SHARK PREVIEW Data Analytics Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Data Analytics program will interview one-on-one with a faculty member in the College of Computing and Engineering. The questions focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Dental Medicine Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Doctor of Dental Medicine program will have the opportunity to visit the College of Dental Medicine and tour the facilities. The associate dean and/or college faculty and admission representatives will conduct formal interviews in groups of five or less students, and the questions will be focused to evaluate the character and core values of all candidates. Application materials, test scores, and transcripts will be reviewed in advance of the interviews. The interview and tour will last approximately one hour (30 minutes for each). Developmental Disabilities Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Developmental Disabilities program will interview one-on-one with a faculty member in the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice. The questions will focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Health Informatics Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Health Informatics program will have the opportunity to visit the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. The questions will focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Human Nutrition Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Nutrition, Professional Practice Concentration program will have the opportunity to visit the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. Two faculty members from the Department of Nutrition will be conducting the formal interviews. The questions will evaluate the candidate’s knowledge of the nutrition field, academic experience, communication skills, and involvement in activities outside of the world of academia. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Information Systems Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Information Systems program will interview one-onone with a faculty member in the College of Computing and Engineering. The questions focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Information Technology Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Information Technology program will interview one-on-one with a faculty member in the College of Computing and Engineering. The questions focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Law Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Juris Doctor program will have the opportunity to visit the College of Law. The Assistant Dean of Admissions will conduct formal, one-onone interviews. The questions and discussion will focus on the candidate’s personal qualities, interest in the field of law, and previous involvement in activities and interests outside of the classroom. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Marine Science Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Marine Science program will have the opportunity to visit the Oceanographic Center and tour the wonderful facilities. The associate dean and/or faculty in the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences will conduct formal interviews in groups of five or less students, and the questions will be focused to evaluate the critical thinking skills of all candidates. The interview and tour will last approximately 90 minutes, plus travel time. National Security Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in National Security Affairs and International Relations program will interview one-on-one with a faculty member in the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences. The questions focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Occupational Therapy Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (O.T.D) program will have the opportunity to visit the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences. Occupational therapy faculty members will conduct formal interviews either oneon-one or in a small group of two or three. The questions will focus on the candidate’s knowledge of and experience in the field, as well as previous involvement outside of the classroom. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Optometry Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Doctor of Optometry program will have the opportunity to visit the College of Optometry. The associate dean and/or admission representatives in the college will conduct formal interviews in groups of three or less students, with individualized time designated for each student. The questions will be focused on the perseverance and passion for the profession, time management, and interpersonal skills. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes.

4 STUDENT GUIDE Osteopathic Medicine Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program will have the opportunity to visit the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine and tour the facilities. Faculty and administrators will conduct formal interviews in small groups, and the questions will focus on challenges in medical school, exemplary qualities of a physician, and strategies for success. Application materials, test scores, and transcripts will be reviewed in advance of the interviews. The small-group interview and tour will last approximately 90 minutes in total. Pharmacy Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy or Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy program will have the opportunity to visit the Barry and Judy Silverman College of Pharmacy. The associate dean and/or college admissions officer will conduct formal interviews in a group of five or less students. The questions will focus on the candidate’s interpersonal skills, the understanding of the profession, and the ability to articulate your level of interest in the field. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Physical Therapy Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program will have the opportunity to visit the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences. A physical therapy faculty member will conduct formal interviews in a group of five or less students. The questions will focus on a candidate’s knowledge and understanding of the field and the options within it. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Physician Assistant Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant program will have the opportunity to visit the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences. A physician assistant faculty member will conduct formal interviews in a group of five or less students. The questions will focus on the understanding of the physician assistant profession and passion for health care. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Psychology Students interviewing for Dual Admission to one of the graduate programs in the College of Psychology will interview with psychology faculty members in small groups of two or oneonone. The questions will focus on a candidate’s career goals and interest in psychology, specific to the program of interest. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Public Health Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Public Health program will have the opportunity to visit the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine and tour the facilities. Faculty and administrators will conduct formal interviews in small groups. Application materials, test scores, and transcripts will be reviewed in advance of the interviews. The smallgroup interview and tour will last approximately one hour in total. Speech-Language Pathology Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology will interview with the program director in the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences, either one- on-one or in a small group of three or less. The questions will focus on a candidate’s passion for the profession of speech-language pathology and interest/experience in the field. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Sports Science Students interviewing for Dual Admission to the Master of Science in Sports Science program will interview with the Program Director in the Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences, either one- on-one or in a small group of three or less and will have the opportunity to visit research facilities including both The Sports Performance and Gait Science Laboratory and The Fight Science Laboratory. The students will then be questioned to focus on the candidate’s experience, basic knowledge of the chosen field, and passion for the profession. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. All application materials will be reviewed in advance. Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Scholars Programs Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Global Students interviewing for Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Global will meet in the Horvitz Administration Building in the downstairs CAPS Office. The interview experience will be 1 hour, including a 20-minute info session, a group task, and an individual interview. Interviewees will have the opportunity to meet current students and the leadership from the Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Global program. The questions and activity will focus on global awareness, global engagement, previous global experiences, communication skills, teamwork, and how candidates will impact the university community. Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Leadership Students interviewing for Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Leadership will have the opportunity to meet current HochbergMiniaci Razor’s Edge Leadership students and the advising professional and graduate assistant staff during their visit. Professional staff members from the Division of Student Affairs, a graduate assistant, and one current Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Leadership students will conduct group process activities and roundtable interviews. The questions will focus on leadership, communication skills, teamwork, and how candidates will impact the university community. The interview session will last approximately 60 minutes.

5 NSU SHARK PREVIEW Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Research Students interviewing for Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Research will have the opportunity to interact with faculty researchers as well as program administrators and current Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Research students in one, 45-minute small-group session. The session will focus on questions about an applicant’s research interests and experiences, other background information that qualifies them for the Program’s rigor, and their understanding of the Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Research Scholars Program. Current Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Research students will answer applicants’ questions and provide the student perspective on the Research Scholars program. The group interview session will last approximately 45 minutes. Hochberg-Miniaci Razor’s Edge Shark Talent Students who will be auditioning and interviewing for HochbergMiniaci Razor’s Edge Shark Talent will perform live or present samples of their art during their scheduled interview/audition time. Additionally, students will include an essay describing who they are as artists and why they are passionate about the arts. In the interview, which is held on the third floor of the Don Taft University Center in room 310, program leadership and Shark Talent students will ask questions to discover the engagement potential of each candidate. We are looking for students who are passionate about performing and creating artwork, and who want to continue to study the arts while in college. Our scholars have a passion for the arts and serve as arts ambassadors and student mentors. Our goal is to raise awareness and participation in the arts among NSU students and the local community. The interview session will last approximately 25 minutes. The Fischler Academy of Education The Fischler Academy of Education Students interviewing for The Fischler Academy will visit the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice. Interviews will be conducted in small groups and led by the Director of The Fischler Academy, faculty members, and current students. During the interview, the focus will be on understanding a candidate’s motivations, their professional goals, and how their past experiences have prepared them to thrive as a member of the program. Huizenga Business Innovation Academy Huizenga Business Innovation Academy Students interviewing for the Huizenga Business Innovation Academy will have the opportunity to visit the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship. The Director of the Huizenga Academy will conduct one-on-one interviews with a faculty member or a Dean of the College of Business. Questions will focus on a candidate’s entrepreneurial experiences and goals, their creativity and teamwork skills, and how they would plan to use the start-up venture funding provided by the program. The interview session will last approximately 30 minutes. Presidential Scholars Presidential Scholars Students interviewing for the Presidential Scholars Program will have the opportunity to meet with NSU Faculty and staff. NSU staff and faculty will conduct a group process activity and roundtable interviews. The questions will focus on the students’ personal characteristics and goals, leadership and mentorship experiences and the student’s passion and interest in NSU. The interview will last approximately 60 minutes.

6 STUDENT GUIDE TIPS TO NAVIGATE SHARK PREVIEW DRESS TO IMPRESS Guiding you to success for Shark Preview interviews General Recommendations: First Impressions Matter • Clothes should be: • Not too large or small, tight or baggy, they should be tailored just right • Clean and in good condition • Lint and wrinkle-free • Nails and makeup: Natural and conservative • Hair: Well-groomed and neatly trimmed facial hair • Choose: Solid, dark, neutral colors—black, beige, brown, blue or gray • Avoid: Stripes, patterns or bright prints/ colors that could appear distracting via zoom background • Consider: Wearing neutral, solid or subtle pattern ties, jewelry and accessories • Decide: On wearing interview attire that meets these standards, that you feel confident in for an interview
