He occasionally teaches M.S. courses in Java programming, database systems, and theory of computation. His graduate work at the University of Rochester focused on resolving lexico-syntactic ambiguity in natural language understanding, and his research interests span broadly within artificial intelligence and computational linguistics. While engaged in natural language processing research, Seagull often attended the annual meeting of the Association for Computation Linguistics, but has more recently attended the Annual Forum of the Association for Institutional Research, where he has held membership since becoming an administrator in 2003. Prior to joining NSU, Seagull was assistant professor of computer science at the College of Wooster in Ohio. He is also a longtime member of the ACM.
