Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography Campaign Priorities

NSU’s Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography (HCNSO) has a bold future. Since 1966, our internationally renowned programs in science have been educating students and creating new knowledge through dedicated scientific research. Today, HCNSO students gain classroom, laboratory, and field knowledge to become the next generation of health professionals, scientists, educators, environmentalists, marine researchers, managers, oceanographers, and conservationists. Students at HCNSO have the opportunity to engage in innovative research. Facilities are based on both the Davie campus and the Oceanographic campus. These include a large marina with seven coastal research vessels, the new 86,000-square-foot Guy Harvey Oceanographic Center (a state-of-the-art research building with a seawater system and experimental complex for pollution evaluation), and teaching labs for biology, chemistry, and physics. HCNSO research explores green energy, genetic engineering, ecology, fisheries, effects of oil spills, climate change, biodiversity, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, conservation genetics, coral reefs, the deep sea, and more. By 2020, NSU’s Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography will be recognized as one of the premier science schools in Florida and the nation for both education and research. HCNSO will be internationally recognized for its bachelor's, master’s, and Ph.D. degree programs. Richard E.
