NSU's Overall Case Statement | Realizing Potential Campaign

POWER in the Present Power in the present means responding to today’s needs with an eye on tomorrow. Power in the present brings hope to life, which is what NSU Sharks do. Members of The Oatmeal Club chose their course of action wisely. As they watched the area’s young people leave for graduate schools, then jobs far from here, they faced a big challenge: how to locally nurture and develop a thriving, educated workforce concentrated in science and technology. This challenge was the first of many that NSU has taken on and overcome. Today, we are one of the most diverse higher education institutions in the nation, according to the U.S. Department of Education. The university is a top educator of African American and Hispanic doctoral students. NSU is an engine of progress, with a $2.6-billion annual economic impact on Florida—nearly $2 billion of that concentrated in the tri-county area. One measure of our power has been the ability to attract individuals and businesses that passionately believe in NSU. Philanthropists and businesses like H. Wayne Huizenga; Guy Harvey, Ph.D.; the Leo Goodwin Foundation; and AutoNation, Inc., to name a few. That is power in the present. “Hope in the future” and “power in the present” capture not only who we are today, but where we are headed. There is an unmistakable excitement on all of our campuses as NSU grows and moves forward with both hope and power.
