NSU's Overall Case Statement | Realizing Potential Campaign

17 Undergraduate students who pursue a major in athletic training perform clinical rotations beginning as freshmen. One rotation NSU offers through Broward County Schools is NSU’s concussion program, which helps protect the student-athletes of more than 27,000 families. Revealing new paths Kenneth Persaud dreamed of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Growing up less than 15 minutes away and volunteering at the Alvin Sherman Library while in high school, Persaud knew NSU and its outstanding reputation well. Persaud planned to major in biology and follow the classic medical school path until he learned that NSU offered an athletic training major. Athletic trainers, he found out, have the same knowledge as orthopedic surgeons when it comes to evaluation and rehabilitation, but what sets athletic trainers apart is their knowledge of injury prevention. “Through the athletic training program, I will have over 700 rotation hours, filled with hands-on work. So when I start medical school, I will already have four years of patient care under my belt, as well as being a certified athletic trainer.” —Kenneth Persaud Freshman, NSU’s College of Health Care Sciences
