14 • NSU students provide approximately 12,000 hours of community service and NSU collaborates with community affiliates on more than 2,000 projects each year. • NSU currently has more than 1,000 students who are either actively serving in the military or are veterans. CREATING UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES NSU students are driven, focused, and community- minded. Carisa Champion-Lippman has logged more than 600 hours of community service leading medical outreach trips; collecting supplies for disaster relief and the needy; and lending a helping hand to Read On, Big Sisters, and the American Osteopathic Foundation Human Touch Project. She is a third-year NSU College of Osteopathic Medicine student, a member of President’s 64, and a student representative to the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of State Government Affairs. Most recently, she was named NSU’s Overall Student of the Year. Champion-Lippmann is also the first student to be accepted for NSU’s new joint degree in osteopathic medicine and law. “NSU has empowered me to pursue an innovative degree program and gain leadership experience that has made me the person I am today.
