PALLAVI PATEL COLLEGE OF HEALTH CARE SCIENCES EVENT Perspectives | JUNE 2018 Fins on the Fairway Golf Tournament Raises Funds for Wounded Veterans BY STEPHANIE FISHER, CLASS OF 2019 On June 9, the Orlando Physician Assistant (PA) class of 2019 hosted an inaugural charity golf tournament named Fins on the Fairway. Steven Valentine predominantly coordinated the tournament, which was held at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Oviedo, Florida, receiving great support from fellow students Brannen Davis, Fadi Essak, Stephanie Shanks, Kevin Slagoski, Alex Witmer, and Zach White. The Orlando PA students raised $8,600, with all the proceeds going to the local veterans’ organization Fairways for Warriors. This charitable organization provides hope, healing, and fellowship to wounded veterans and their families by utilizing golf as a means of forming a community to bring families together. The goal of the Fins on the Fairway event was to raise funds and community awareness for Fairways for Warriors, so it could continue to provide the services and recreational activities that enhance the physical, cognitive, and emotional health of wounded veterans. The Orlando PA Program hopes this becomes an annual even to benefit the wounded veterans of Orlando and the greater Central Florida area. † Stephanie Fisher is a class of 2019 student in the Physician Assistant—Orlando Program.
