10 | Physician Assistant Program The role of the physician assistant requires a high level of expertise and responsibility. The applicant must possess the ability and desire to complete a rigorous academic and clinical program. Prospective students are selected by the Committee on Admissions (COA), which considers the overall qualities of each applicant. Areas of consideration include • interpersonal skills • personal motivation • knowledge and understanding of the PA profession • academic performance and level of achievement • life experiences • quality and length of prior health care experience • recommendations/evaluations Personal interviews are offered to the most qualified applicants to assess interpersonal and communication skills, maturity, altruistic attitude, and commitment to a PA career. Requirements for all applicants (unless specifically stated otherwise) include 1. completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or univer- sity, prior to matriculation, with the following GPA parameters ; • a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale • a minimum science GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale A baccalaureate degree in any field of study is acceptable, as long as all prerequi- sites are met.
