College of Optometry (CO)—Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Vision Science 2024–2025 135 Vision Rehabilitation Club (VRC) The Vision Rehabilitation Club (VRC) is a student organization that focuses on low vision practices in the optometric profession. The goal is to provide students with information and awareness regarding low vision practices and devices. The VRC features low-vision specialist speakers ranging from private optometry practitioners to low-vision device sales representatives. The VRC helps students determine if they wish to specialize in, or incorporate, low-vision services into their future practices. Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Vision Science NSU’s College of Optometry (CO) offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Vision Science program. This program is designed to enhance the education of students enrolled—or seeking enrollment—into the O.D. traditional or extended programs. Prior to matriculation, applicants must have completed a minimum of 90 semester hours (30 of which must be taken at an institution offering a four-year program) of specified coursework at a regionally accredited college or university. Curriculum The curriculum is divided into two categories: basic science and optometric science courses. The courses include topics in anatomy and physiology of general and ocular structures, optics, perception, and binocular vision. Courses are didactic and may include laboratory courses. Requirements for Graduation Upon application, the degree will be conferred on all candidates who have satisfactorily completed all course and eligibility requirements. Students must • have satisfactorily completed the program of study required for the degree within the first two years of the traditional program or first three years of the extended program • have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 • have satisfactorily met all financial obligations Examination Policies and Procedures Students are expected to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of the examination. Students who arrive late at an examination location will not be permitted to take the examination, if any other student has turned in their copy of the examination and left the location.
