College of Optometry (CO) 2024–2025 134 The NOSA local chapter provides service to schools and churches in minority communities in the form of vision screenings and presentations. Nova Optometric Practice Management Association (NOPMA) The primary mission of the Nova Optometric Practice Management Association (NOPMA) is to expose optometry students to real-world optometry, business practice planning, and career opportunities to prepare them for what is to come after they have completed their optometric education. The NOPMA wants to provide as many tools as possible for them to make the best of their optometric careers including, but not limited to, business plans, curricula vitae and résumés, start-up consulting, contract and partnership advice, insurance and billing information, optical business resources, and accounting and financial resources such as loan management and investment advice. Optometric Student Association for Ocular Disease (OSAOD) The Optometric Student Association for Ocular Disease (OSAOD) is designed to further interest and education in the field of optometry with specific focus and concentration in ocular disease. The OSAOD features speakers with extensive clinical knowledge in the area of ocular disease who will share their insight and experience in an attempt to add to the clinical education of optometry student club members. Optometry Student Government Association (OSGA) The Optometry Student Government Association (OSGA) is the official voice for all optometry students. The OSGA is open to all students and welcomes proposals and participation from the entire student body. The responsibilities of the OSGA include collecting and expressing student opinion, dispensing funds for student activities, acting as a liaison for the entire student body, promoting optometry, supporting club and class activities, and working to improve the quality of life for all students at NSU’s CO. Four voting representatives are selected from each class. In the spring of each year, OSGA officers— president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer—are nominated from this pool of representatives. Spectrum LGBTQ and Allies Association This student club focuses on outreach to the LGBTQ+ community regarding the importance of ocular health routine eye exams. They host guest speakers who provide information on interactions between the optometry and the LGBTQ+ communities and promote an inclusive educational environment. Sports Vision and Concussion Club (SVCC) The mission of the Sports Vision and Concussion Club (SVCC) is to increase awareness of this growing and severely underserved area of optometry. Additional educational opportunities and resources will be available to all optometric students through the SVCC. Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH) The mission of the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH) is to provide primary eye care to individuals who do not have access, either for geographical or financial reasons. Mission trips target the Caribbean, as well as Central and South America, where there is an immense unmet need for eye care. The SVOSH provides an excellent opportunity to be involved with the community and have a great impact on people’s daily lives.
