College of Optometry (CO) 2024–2025 125 Honor Court Article I. Purpose Faculty and staff members should aspire to promote appropriate conduct in the professional academic program, including informing students of any specific expectations for academic integrity that may be unique to the course, laboratory, or clinic (preferably in the course syllabus). Individual faculty members should provide a testing environment that discourages academic misconduct to the best of their ability. In summary, the Honor Court will abide by a code to 1. encourage the highest standard of personal conduct 2. promote the highest quality education 3. promote the highest quality of patient care 4. establish a system to resolve allegations of professional misconduct or academic dishonesty Article II. Jurisdiction This Honor Court shall apply to all students enrolled in the professional optometry program of the CO. Allegations of professional misconduct or academic dishonesty by optometry students associated with any university course or clinical experience (optometry, vision science, or otherwise) shall be adjudicated by means of the procedures outlined in this honor code. Students enrolled in the graduate school (M.S. in Clinical Vision Research) will follow the NSU Code of Student Conduct and Academic Responsibility administered by the university. Article III. College of Optometry Rules of Conduct Students in the CO are expected to maintain the highest standard of both academic honesty and professional conduct including, but not limited to, the following: 1. Students in the CO are honor bound to abide by the NSU Code of Student Conduct and Academic Responsibility. 2. A student shall not give or receive aid on assignments or during examinations unless collaborative work is part of the examination exercise and approved by the instructor. 3. A student shall not attempt to reproduce questions from secured exams. 4. A student shall follow the rules of a course as described in the course syllabus or other course information provided to the student. The student should assume that all assignments are to be completed individually, unless otherwise specified by the instructor. 5. A student shall be responsible for the content of the student’s work and shall not misrepresent the work of another as the student’s work. 6. A student shall not serve as a substitute or attempt to enlist a substitute in the taking of examinations or signing a student’s attendance documentation.
