Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing (ACON) 2024–2025 143 • The defense is the final presentation and clarification process to the dissertation committee and invited guests. The college will post notification to ACON faculty members and students in the required NSU notification time frame. (Please refer to the Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing Dissertation Guide.) Format for Dissertation Defense • The defense will be held at an NSU campus/remotely and the student and all committee members must attend. (See the Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing Dissertation Guide, Letter of Agreement [external committee member] for information about attendance by external committee members.) If presenting remotely, the student must be visible through the webcam. The program prefers dissertation defense to be on campus. • The student will have 30 minutes to present, followed by a question and answer session. • Following the presentation and question and answer session, the committee will deliberate and give their decision and recommendation to the student. • The student should provide a copy of the edited dissertation to each committee member following the defense. Exit Requirements for Ph.D. Program All students must meet with their adviser during the last semester of enrollment and review their Degree Works report and completion of all required courses. All students must apply for degree conferral online, prior to conferral of degree. Degrees cannot be conferred if there are any financial and/or library holds remaining on the student’s account.
