TRANSFER NEW STUDENT CHECKLIST You’re on your way to officially becoming a Shark! Follow these next steps to Shark success. Contact your admissions counselor to discuss next steps at nova.edu/meetmycounselor. 1. SUBMIT TRANSFER REPORT Complete and mail, email, or fax the transfer report to complete your file for admission. This form must be completed by a college official who has access to your disciplinary record at your current or most recently attended college. Visit nova.edu/transfer for more information. 2. ACTIVATE YOUR SHARKLINK ACCOUNT SharkLink is your official portal for information and is home to your NSU email. Financial aid, campus housing, and undergraduate advising will send important updates to your NSU email. This is also where you will review your financial aid award and access all other student account information. Activate at nova.edu/resources/nsuidentity then log in to SharkLink at nova.edu/sharklink. Call SharkIT Services at (954) 262-4357 for technical support. 3. APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID To be considered for need-based financial aid, including grants and loans, you must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov. NSU’s Federal School Code is 001509. Contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance at (954) 262-3380 with questions. FINANCIAL AID FORMS Access all financial aid forms at nova.edu/financialaid/forms. Florida residents will need to submit the “NSU State Aid Application” to be considered for Florida State Aid (see next page). CONSIDER A PAYMENT PLAN NSU offers a payment plan to help you manage your semester tuition costs through monthly payments. The semester before classes begin, you can apply for a payment plan. Learn more about the payment plan application process at nova.edu/paymentplans. 4. CONTACT TRANSFER EVALUATION SERVICES (TES) TES assists students with services relating to the transfer of courses taken at other regionally accredited institutions. Visit nova.edu/tes or email esstes@nova.edu for more information on NSU policies on transferring credit, prior experience and military service credit, and eligible examination credit. BEFORE YOUR ENROLLMENT DEPOSIT. MAKE IT OFFICIAL! CONFIRM YOUR ENROLLMENT. This requires a $200 nonrefundable deposit. Pay online at nova.edu/deposit. You’ll need your N#.
1. APPLY FOR HOUSING Housing for transfer students is based on availability and not guaranteed. If you are interested in living on campus, submit a housing contract and $500 housing deposit at nova.edu/housing. Students residing with a legal guardian in Broward, Miami-Dade, or Palm Beach counties are not required to live on campus. Contact the Office of University Housing at (954) 262-7052 for questions about living on campus. 2. SUBMIT FINAL TRANSCRIPTS Submit final, official transcripts to NSU, showing all coursework completed from all institutions attended. If you took any dual-enrollment courses, request final, official transcript(s) directly from the institution(s) where you received college credit. If you took Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses, or Cambridge International Examinations, and took corresponding exams, please submit official test scores directly from the testing agency. For non-degree seeking students, submit your final transcript with conferred bachelor’s degree from the institution received. COMPLETE THREE STEPS TO CLASS REGISTRATION The Center for Academic and Professional Success (CAPS) will be your go-to for course selection and class registration. Starting in late spring, you will receive communication notifying you when it’s time to begin the course registration process. ATTEND NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION New student orientation occurs right before classes begin each Fall and is the best way to acclimate to life as a Shark. This couse is mandatory. This self-paced, online course is available on your SharkLink account at sharklink.nova.edu. Upon completion, you will be provided with dates to register for your group advising session. STEP TWO: SIGN-UP FOR GROUP ADVISING REGISTRATION SESSION After completing the New Student Canvas course and passing a short quiz, you must register for a group advising session with a CAPS Advisor. Mark your calendar with your confirmed session date. STEP THREE: ATTEND GROUP ADVISING REGISTRATION SESSION On the day of your group advising session, please be sure you have access to a computer in a quiet location to facilitate course registration successfully. After attending your group advising session, you will be registered for your first semester as an NSU Shark! Questions?
