31 ALAN B. LEVAN | NSU BROWARD CENTER OF INNOVATION (2022–Present) The Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation— a public-private partnership between NSU and Broward County—serves as a catalyst for economic and educational development, connecting South Florida’s innovation ecosystem. Supporting the founder’s journey from idea to exit or global expansion, the Levan Center offers programs, events, and services designed to help entrepreneurs and early-stage start-ups build, scale, and succeed. REGIONAL CAMPUSES In 1999, NSU launched centers across Florida to support student clusters of 50+ with local advisers, financial aid, IT, and computer labs. ALVIN SHERMAN LIBRARY (2001–Present) Nearly a decade after university librarian Donald E. Riggs and trustee Sam Morrison envisioned a joint-use library, Ferrero enlisted Hanbury to make it happen. In 2001, NSU’s board and Broward County unanimously approved Florida’s only university library open to the public. More than 7,000 attended the opening. Inspired by NSU’s rapid growth, developer Alvin Sherman donated $7 million, and the library was renamed in his honor. NSU ART MUSEUM | FORT LAUDERDALE (2008–Present) Mary McCahill’s early advocacy for the Fort Lauderdale Museum of the Arts set the stage for its merger with NSU. Two years before the merger, 30 percent of the museum’s collection was already housed on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus. Trustee emeritus Mike Jackson captured the vision: “What is better than a world-class university and a world-class museum of art united for the good of our community?” Situated in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the NSU Art Museum is a hub for the South Florida art scene, featuring the largest U.S. collections of William Glackens’ works and avant-garde CoBrA postwar art.
