Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM)—Department of Couple and Family Therapy 2024–2025 262 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Couple and Family Therapy Mission Statement The mission of the Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Couple and Family Therapy program is to develop students who are committed to advanced academic and clinical practice and who are prepared for leadership in the field of couple/marriage family therapy through research, supervision, teaching, and clinical theory and practice. Additionally, students in the Ph.D. program are committed to serving disparate and heightened-need communities as ethical practitioners while focusing on the relational strengths and resources of clients with appreciation and respect. Vision The vision of the Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Couple and Family Therapy Program is to develop students who are committed to academic and clinical innovation and prepared for advanced leadership in the field of couple/marriage and family therapy. The application of systemic/relational theory is the foundation for our training with an emphasis on serving disparate populations in a variety of settings. Our program further strives to uphold all ethical, legal, and professional standards in the field. Program Goals and Student Learning Outcomes Ph.D. Program Goals (PGs) PG1: The Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy program demonstrates a commitment to population sensitivities and individual dignity. PG2: The Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy program demonstrates a commitment to ethical and professional practice. PG3: The Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy program trains students in research, teaching, supervision, and advanced clinical theory and practice. PG4: The Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy program demonstrates a commitment to serving the community. PG5: The Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy program demonstrates a commitment to graduating students in a timely manner, preparing them for the licensure exam and monitoring graduate employment. Ph.D. Program Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) SLO1: Ph.D. students will demonstrate respect for disparate populations and individual dignity in teaching SLO2: Ph.D. students will demonstrate respect for disparate populations and individual dignity in supervision.
