Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM)—Department of Nutrition 2024–2025 240 Department of Nutrition Vision Statement The vision of the Department of Nutrition is to advance nutrition as the foundation of health and wellness. As such, the administration, faculty, and staff embrace the mission and core values of Nova Southeastern University in the conduct of all its endeavors. Professional Accreditations The Master of Science in Nutrition, Professional Practice Concentration is approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) as a Future Graduate Program. Graduates of this coordinated program meet both the didactic education and supervised training requirements for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN). This pathway also meets state licensing requirements for nutrition practice in Florida and most states. Future updates to this status will be posted on the program’s website at osteopathic.nova.edu/ms-nutrition/rdn-conc.html. It is the only pathway offered within the Department of Nutrition by which students become qualified to take the national credentialing examination issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists. Students will be considered graduates of an accredited program upon successful completion of the program. Information specific to the students enrolled in the accredited course of study (Professional Practice Concentration) is also provided at the end of this section. The Master of Science in Nutrition is approved by the Board of Certified Nutrition Specialists (BCNS) to fulfill all the current academic requirements for the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) credential. BCNS requires a graduate degree in the field of nutrition from a regionally accredited university, specific coursework, and 1,000 hours of supervised practice experience. Any student who wishes to be qualified under this curriculum plan must be approved by an academic adviser to ensure all the program requirements are met. The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND®), as a Didactics Program in Dietetics. This is a first step in the professional pathway to become a registered dietitian. Graduates of this program qualify to apply for approved supervised practice programs and complete the eligibility requirements to take the registration examination. Students enrolled in the approved course of study will be considered graduates of an accredited program upon successful completion.
