KPCOM Student Handbook 2025-2026

Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM)—Graduate/Professional Degree Programs 2025–2026 203 • A student who earns an F course grade may be given the opportunity to repeat the failed course. Additional tuition will be charged for the repeated course. If a student receives a failing (F) grade in another course, regardless of the new grade earned in the repeated course, the student will be referred to the SPAC and may be subject to dismissal from the program. • If a student repeats a course, then the highest grade will be included in the cumulative GPA calculation. The lowest grade will be displayed on the transcript but will not be included in calculating the cumulative GPA. Once a repeated course has been completed, a student must send a written request to the program director for a Grade Forgiveness Form. The student’s academic record will not be updated with the new grade until the Grade Forgiveness Form has been completed and returned to the academic coordinator via email. • A course failure in the M.S. in Foundational and Integrated Medical Sciences program makes the student ineligible for the D.O. transition pathway. (Students may repeat the failed course, as outlined above, to complete the master’s degree requirements; however, repeating and passing the course does not reinstate eligibility for the D.O. transition pathway.) • If a student repeats a course, all work submitted in the new course must be authentic, original work. Student-work products that have been submitted from any prior course (even the repeated course) will not be accepted and will be considered as acts of self-plagiarism. For more information regarding policies surrounding repeat courses and grade replacement for the M.S. in Foundational and Integrated Medical Sciences program, please refer to the Course Failure section in this handbook. Students must gain prior approval of the equivalency of the course before enrollment. In cases where students believe courses to be identical, although the course number or title may differ, students must gain prior approval of the equivalency of the course before enrollment. Please note that the program follows the NSU Standards of Academic Progress (SAP) and the Grading Policy. Visit nova.edu/financialaid/eligibility/satisfactory-academic-progress.html for more information. Repeated coursework does affect SAP measures. All repeated courses must be counted toward the maximum time frame, which could negatively affect the student’s eligibility for financial aid. Questions regarding satisfactory academic progress should be directed to the Office of Student Financial Assistance (nova.edu/financialaid/eligibility/satisfactory-academic-progress.html). The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will not pay for repeated courses if the previous grade met academic standards. Students should direct questions to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. 5. Remediation Examinations and/or Coursework The student is responsible for reading each course syllabus and complying with the policies as stated. The examination and/or coursework policies will pertain to all makeup examinations. Remediation for failed courses will follow the Repeat Course/Grade Replacement and will be coordinated by the program director.
