KPCOM - Student Handbook 2024-2025

Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM)—Osteopathic Medicine Program 2024–2025 162 A student with an unexcused absence will be offered a makeup examination and will receive a maximum grade of 70 on that examination. Makeup examinations for all M1 and M2 courses will be scheduled at the discretion of the Office of Preclinical Education. Students will be notified by the Office of Preclinical Education of the time, date, and location of the makeup examination. Eligible students are to make themselves available at the scheduled date and time of the makeup examination. If the student misses the makeup examination, the student will receive a zero for that examination. The format of a makeup examination may differ from the format of the originally scheduled examination. 4. Emergencies During Examinations Should an emergency (e.g., fire alarm, active shooter) occur during an examination that impacts students’ ability to continue the exam, those students who are impacted are to follow NSU’s emergency procedures. They must close the electronic exam or turn in the paper exam and evacuate the building or shelter in place as ordered. These students will be scheduled for a second full examination as soon as circumstances allow. Those questions already completed will be voided since students did not have the opportunity to recheck their work prior to the emergency. Students who have already completed and submitted the exam prior to the emergency will receive the examination score earned. Students who are not impacted by the emergency because they are in another building or on another campus will continue taking the examination as scheduled. 5. Board Examinations Passing the NBOME COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2-CE, examinations are required for graduation from the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM) (see section on Graduation Requirements). The NBME USMLE Step examinations are not a requirement for licensure of osteopathic physicians nor are they required for graduation from the KPCOM. Students who have already scheduled board examinations prior to their going on academic probation will have to cancel and reschedule those examinations until sometime after regaining good academic standing. Any expenses incurred with the cancellation and rescheduling of these examinations will be incurred by the student. Students who fail to comply with these requirements will be referred to the SPC. a.
