Late Arrival to Rotation Site In the event a student expects to be unavoidably late to begin the rotation on the scheduled date at an assigned site, the student must seek written advance approval by email from their assigned clinical coordinator in the KPCOM Office of Clinical Education. In the event of an emergency, the student should call the dean’s office at (954) 262-1772. Failure to do so may result in unexcused absences. In the event a student expects to be unavoidably late to any day of a scheduled rotation at the assigned site, the student must seek written advanced approval by email from the student’s assigned clinical coordinator in the KPCOM Office of Clinical Education. Late arrivals, whether approved or unapproved, resulting in an arrival time later than 30 minutes after the start of the scheduled rotation, may be counted as absences in calculating the total allowable absences per rotation. However, any late arrivals, even arrivals less than 30 minutes after the start of any day of a scheduled rotation, can be deemed unprofessional and may be referred to the Student Progress Committee for further review. c. Early Departure from a Clinical Rotation A student may not leave the student’s designated rotation before the scheduled end of the rotation without written advance approval by email from the KPCOM Office of Clinical Education. A student may not leave the student’s designated rotation on any day before the scheduled end of the day without the permission of the student’s assigned clinical coordinator and preceptor (not a resident). Failure in Reporting Any absence not reported to the Office of Clinical Education within three business days may result in referral to the SPC. e. Workday During Clinical Training A usual workweek is 60 hours per week. A typical workday will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. Deviation from these hours is at the discretion of the preceptor. Students are expected to follow the schedule of their preceptor. An acceptable minimum workweek is 40 hours. The workweek shall be limited to a maximum of 80 hours. Clinical and educational work hours must be limited to no more than 80 hours per week, averaged over a four-week period, inclusive of all in-house clinical and educational activities, and clinical work done from home. Clinical and educational work periods for students must not exceed 24 hours of continuous scheduled clinical assignments. Students must have at least 14 hours free of clinical work and education after 24 hours of in-house call.
