KPCOM Student Handbook 2024-2025

Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (KPCOM)—Osteopathic Medicine Program 2024–2025 116 Students may call (727) 824-8189 and speak directly to an Evara Health representative to schedule their appointment. Students will need to provide a photo ID and insurance card upon check in. Additional information, locations, and services at each location can be found at evarahealth.org. Students who are not geographically close to either KPCOM campus, may access confidential student health services via telehealth through the NSU Student Medical Center. Students may call (954) 262-1262 to schedule a telehealth appointment. If calling outside of regular work hours, the call service operator will triage the call to determine if an on-call physician needs to call back or if an appointment can be scheduled. Otherwise, they may seek health services through their own insurance provider(s) or a local emergency room/urgent care center. 4. Student Behavioral/Mental Health Counseling Confidential counseling for KPCOM students is provided by the NSU Center for Student Counseling and Well-Being by Henderson Behavioral Health. KPCOM students can find the information on how to access these services on the center’s web page at nova.edu/studentcounseling or by calling (954) 262-7050. Services provided include treatment for anxiety, panic and depression; anger management; financial stress; social struggles; chronic illnesses; abuse; suicidal thoughts; break-ups and divorce; assault; and many other areas affecting a student’s quality of life. In addition to the office hours listed on the website, a crisis hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to give support and counseling by phone at (954) 424-6911. Additionally, all full- and part-time students receive 10 free sessions per year, plus the triage/screening session and the assessment. Students may use the HIPAA-compliant telehealth option. Students with NSU Student Health Insurance Plan can also access behavioral health services through its telehealth benefit. Students who have opted out of the NSU Student Health Insurance Plan should utilize their primary insurance carrier’s behavioral health services if they decide not to utilize the services of the NSU Center for Student Counseling and Well-Being. Additionally, all KPCOM students have online access to Therapy Assistance Online (TAO). TAO is a fullservice, individualized mental health and wellness, support plan. It is a digital platform, which provides a mix of psychoeducation, hands-on coping tools, and self-guided help for the NSU community. It can be accessed through a web-based browser or through the TAO app, and is set up like a streaming service (e.g., Netflix, Hulu), making it easy to browse and search for available content. Students can easily see topics that are trending, such as overcoming perfectionism, coping with anxiety, or deep breathing. Students must use their NSU email to utilize this service, which is available 24/7. Students can be set up through our counseling center or utilize the site anonymously to protect their confidentiality. The goals of TAO are to increase access to mental health treatment and support and provide evidencebased resources to our students. Please note, TAO is not intended to replace traditional counseling services, but rather enhance and supplement the services provided. Additional information can be found at taoconnect.org.
