558 Ron and Kathy Assaf College of Nursing NSG 7350—Leading in Complex Healthcare Systems This course focuses on principles of business, finance, economics, and leadership in United States and Global healthcare systems. Solutions for complex ethical, political, economic, and cultural healthcare systems issues will be explored. Students will use collaborative and interprofessional skills to examine proposed system solutions. This course challenges students to create new ideas, adopt new behaviors, and identify new opportunities to view and solve healthcare dilemmas. As transformational leaders, students will analyze strategies to support organizational and systems change that leads to improved healthcare outcomes. (3 credit hours) NSG 7400—Nursing Science for Clinical Practice This course explores the scientific principles and philosophical underpinnings of nursing practice relevant to the role of D.N.P. concepts models, frameworks, quality improvement science, and theories from nursing and other disciplines applied to clinical practice problems. Students analyze various approaches used in research and evaluate the quality of published research. Students develop search strategies to answer questions related to a selected topic of interest for an evidence-based practice change or quality improvement project. (3 credit hours) NSG 7403—Advancing Nursing Science This course engages students in critical synthesis and appraisal of the state of nursing science, as well as their area of research interest. Students further refine skills in the development of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research. Additionally, the importance of reviews, such as integrative and systematic reviews, meta-analysis, and meta-synthesis, for knowledge development in nursing science is explored. (3 credit hours) NSG 7429—Continuous Matriculation This course provides students in the graduate program with less than the approved number of supervised clinical practice hours an opportunity to complete the clinical hours. (1 to 3 credit hours) NSG 7431—Project I: Mentored Scholarship This cornerstone course allows students to apply methods, tools, and strategies required to conduct a scholarly literature review and to develop a clear statement of the problem for final project implementation. Clinical immersion hours are required. Clinical immersion objectives and activities are mutually developed by the student and the faculty and based on the proposed clinical project. (5 credit hours) NSG 7443—D.N.P. Independent Study This independent study course is individualized according to each student’s educational needs. Course content is different for each student. A written contract between the course faculty and the student is developed at the beginning of the semester that establishes student identified course goals and objectives, learning activities, D.N.P. competencies to be met, and evaluation methods. (3 credit hours) NSG 7444—Project II: Project Plan This course provides students with the support and direction needed to develop and defend a comprehensive, site-specific D.N.P. project proposal plan in collaboration with faculty and mentor. Approved proposal is submitted to NSU Institutional Board Review (IRB) for approval along with clinical site IRB and/or site approval. Clinical immersion hours are required. Clinical immersion objectives and activities are mutually developed by the student and the faculty and based on the proposed clinical project. (4 credit hours) NSG 7445—Project III: Implementation This project experience provides an opportunity for the student to execute the project plan in collaboration with the sponsoring site. The experience reflects the interest of the student and is designed to meet individual interests and career goals. This advanced practice project allows the student to learn to manage time and resources, assess implementation issues, and utilize communication and collaboration while working with a clinical mentor to implement the project plan. Clinical immersion hours are required. Clinical immersion objectives and activities are mutually developed by the student and the faculty and based on the proposed clinical project. (3 credit hours) NSG 7451—Project IV: Evaluation This is the final component of the project experience. The course content, as in the other project courses, reflects the interest of the student and is designed to meet individual student needs and career goals. This final course allows the student, with guidance from mentor and faculty, to evaluate the EBP project outcomes and develop scholarly written and oral reports to disseminate and integrate new knowledge. The final product will reflect the student’s ability to employ effective communication and collaboration skills, take a leadership role, influence healthcare quality and safety, evaluate practice, and successfully negotiate change in healthcare delivery for individuals, families, populations or systems across a broad spectrum of healthcare settings.
