Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences—Department of Anesthesia 275 Master of Science in Anesthesia—Jacksonville M.S. in Anesthesia— Jacksonville Accreditation The Master of Science in Anesthesia Program at NSU is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP: 9355 113 Street North, #7709, Seminole, FL 33775, 727-210-2350; fax 727-210-2354). M.S. in Anesthesia—Jacksonville Admissions Requirements 1. completion of a baccalaureate degree from a nationally recognized and regionally accredited college or university, including above average performance in courses required in a premed curriculum (refer to the following required courses) Required Courses* • E nglish (3 semester hours) • Anatomy and physiology with lab (8 semester hours) • General chemistry with lab (8 semester hours) • Organic chemistry with lab (4 semester hours) • Biochemistry (3 semester hours) • G eneral physics with lab—trigonometry or calculus based (8 semester hours) • C alculus (3 semester hours) *Required courses can’t be survey courses. Preferred Courses—Not Required • Organic chemistry II (3 semester hours) • Microbiology (3 semester hours) • Cell and molecular biology (3 semester hours) Note: A grade of 2.0 (C) or better is required in all prerequisite classes. 2. official transcripts of all undergraduate, professional, and graduate coursework 3. a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 grading scale; minimum GPA of 3.2 preferred 4. scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), taken early enough for official scores to be submitted directly to CASAA by October 15 The NSU code number is 4784. Test must have been taken within the past five years. 5. three letters of recommendation from people familiar with applicant’s prior academic performance, potential, character, work habits, and suitability for graduate study leading into a career in clinical practice (Recommendations submitted by relatives, personal health care providers, or personal friends are not acceptable.) 6. at least eight hours of documented anesthesia exposure by observation in the operating room 7. a summary of an article published in a current anesthesia journal An applicant who has graduated from a college or university in a country where English is not the primary language, regardless of United States residency status, must take the computerized Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). An official set of scores must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey, to CASAA and to NSU’s Enrollment Processing Services (EPS).
