College of Optometry 241 OPT 7192—Glaucoma Clinical Rotation This course deals with patient examinations in an advanced ophthalmic care setting under the supervision of appropriately credentialed faculty members. Clinical care is delivered in the glaucoma service, with subsequent discussion of pathophysiology, differential diagnoses, and patientappropriate management. Integration of didactic knowledge with clinical care is emphasized. (0.5 semester hours) OPT 7193—Dry Eye Clinical Rotation This specialized clinical rotation focuses on delivering care to patients with ocular surface diseases in a primary care, optometric setting under the supervision of qualified faculty members, utilizing evidence-based, clinical knowledge and the latest technology. Delivered clinical care is combined with subsequent case analysis involving discussions of pathology, pathophysiology, microbiology, immunology, and ocular and systemic diseases, as well as pharmacologic, nonsurgical, and surgical treatment options. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking in a clinical setting, integration of scientific concepts and technology into patient-centered care, proper charting, encounter coding, and interprofessional communication. (0.5 semester hours) OPT 7194—Myopia Management and Control Clinical Rotation This course deals with patient examinations in an advanced ophthalmic care setting under the supervision of appropriately credentialed faculty members. Clinical care is delivered in the myopia management service, with subsequent discussion of pathophysiology, differential diagnoses, and patientappropriate management. Integration of didactic knowledge with clinical care is emphasized. (0.5 semester hours) OPT 7195—Pediatrics Clinical Rotation This course prepares student clinicians to provide entry-level primary vision services (binocular vision assessment and eye health assessment) to preschool and school-aged pediatric patients. Clinicians will learn to master data collection in young patients, including those with limited communication abilities. Clinicians will also be able to diagnose and manage common conditions found in the pediatric population. Integration of didactic knowledge with clinical care is emphasized. (1 semester hour) OPT 7196—Low Vision Clinical Rotation This course discusses low vision rehabilitation and geriatric vision care for the visually impaired in traditional and educational settings. Students will also learn about visionenhancing devices. (0.5 semester hours) OPT 7214—Cornea and Contact Lens Internship The clinical program provides experience in cornea and contact lens patient care and practice management and emphasizes the use of special tests, procedures, and scholarly activities relevant to this specialty. (4 semester hours) OPT 7223—Vision Rehabilitation Internship (Elective) This course discusses low vision rehabilitation and geriatric vision care for the visually impaired in traditional and educational settings. Students will also learn about visionenhancing devices. (2.5 semester hours) OPT 7224—Pediatric and Binocular Vision Internship This clinical program provides exposure to pediatric optometry and binocular vision patient care, with emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of functional vision disorders. It includes administration of specialty test procedures and vision therapy for the enhancement of functional skills. (4 semester hours) OPT 7266—Vision Rehabilitation Externship (Elective) This course provides information on low vision rehabilitation for the visually impaired in traditional and educational settings. Students will also learn about vision-enhancing devices. (1 semester hour) OPT 7308—Medical and Surgical Clinical Externship This clinical program provides exposure to diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients in a medical/surgical setting. It includes preoperative and postoperative care, evaluation and comanagement of patients with systemic health anomalies and medical conditions, such as glaucoma, as well as observation of medical eye care. (8 semester hours) OPT 7408—Clinical Elective Externship This program provides opportunities for students to gain additional clinic experience from a choice of primary care, secondary care, or tertiary care clinic sites. (8 semester hours) OPT 7508—Primary Care Clinical Rotation This program provides students with a primary care clinical experience at an externship site of their choice. (8 semester hours) OPT 9995—Sports Vision Clinical Rotation (Elective) This course deals with patient examinations in an advanced ophthalmic care setting under the supervision of appropriately credentialed faculty members. Clinical care is delivered in the sports vision service, with subsequent discussion of pathophysiology, differential diagnoses, and patientappropriate management. Integration of didactic knowledge with clinical care is emphasized. (0.5 semester hours)
