New Heights D uring the 2009 Homecoming ceremonies on February 11, Ray Ferrero, Jr., J.D., NSU presi- dent, unveiled a magnificent, 17-foot-high, bronze sculpture of a mako shark. Housed at the entrance to the Don Taft University Center, the leap- ing shark, representing the university’s mascot, rises above a bronze wave of water in a 10-foot-high foun- tain. Weighing 3,000 pounds, the creation also con- tains 76 individually sculpted teeth welded into the shark’s mouth and cast in polished stainless steel. (continued on page 36) 17 horizons
