38 NSU HORIZONS ALUMNI PROFILE COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRY Jennifer Smith Zolman , B.S. (’06), O.D. (’06), is president of the South Carolina Optometric Physicians Association (SCOPA), an adjunct clinical professor for five colleges of optometry, and the residency director in vision therapy/pedi- atric optometry affiliated with Southern College of Optom- etry. She is cochair of the American Optometric Associa- tion’s InfantSEE and Children’s Vision Committee and the South Carolina InfantSEE state leader. Zolman’s professional awards include the Southern Coun- cil of Optometrists’ Young Optometrist of the South Award in 2013, SCOPA’s Young Optometrist of the Year Award in 2012, and SCOPA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2009. She has also served as a Brownie Girl Scout leader and as a Big Sister in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. Zolman was recognized with the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2007–2008 and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters CJ Award in 2013. COLLEGE OF PHARMACY Hyla Fritsch , Pharm.D. (’06), serves as the director of pharmacy services for the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. While working on her Doctor of Pharmacy degree, she maintained a level of academic excellence that granted her membership in the prestigious Rho Chi Honor Society. Fritsch published many professional journal articles focusing on pharmacy information databases and informatics, direct- to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising, and language access services in pharmacy environments. Fritsch has held multiple public health leadership roles for the Health Care District of Palm Beach County. She is an active member of several national pharmacy organizations and works closely with federal, state, and county programs to ensure quality pharmaceutical care for the most vulner- able populations of Palm Beach County. COLLEGE OF PSYCHOLOGY Steve Gonzalez , M.S. (’96), Psy.D. (’00), is a supervisory special agent at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. As a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist, Gonzalez uses his expertise in behavioral assessment to provide psychological consultation and profiling services to the FBI’s investigative units and the undercover community. Since joining the FBI as an agent in 2003, Gonzalez has served as an integral member of the counterterrorism, criminal, and counterintelligence branches in the FBI’s New York field office and the Counterterrorism Division at FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C. Before joining the FBI, Gonzalez was on active duty in the U.S. Navy, where he served domestically and overseas as a commissioned officer. His responsibilities included develop- ing psychological operations, conducting detainee interroga- tions, and providing general therapeutic and crisis interven- tions for military personnel. DR. KIRAN C. PATEL COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE William Stager , D.O. (’89), has been a primary care physician since 1990. He also is a clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. Stager is board certified in family medicine and neuro- musculoskeletal medicine/osteopathic manipulative medi- cine. During his 27-year career, he has taught hundreds of medical students, interns, residents, and physicians across the United States, Canada, Norway, and China. He has published more than 200 articles and papers in health and fitness magazines, as well as in many peer-reviewed medical journals. Stager holds four fellowships—with the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, and the American Academy of Osteopathy. DR. PALLAVI PATEL COLLEGE OF HEALTH CARE SCIENCES Sharon Alexander , M.H.S. (’05), is chief executive officer of the Unicorn Children’s Foundation, Inc., a position she has held since 2007. As a child development specialist, Alexander has more than 20 years of experience working with children and families affected by learning and commu- nication disorders. Alexander was a member of the original behavioral team at the Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Center in Weston, Florida. There, she developed and supervised one- on-one developmental and behavioral services provided to children with developmental disabilities.
