The room—created with a gift from Craig and Barbara Weiner— offers NSU students, faculty and staff members, and the general public a place to learn about the horrendous acts of the Holocaust. The room includes several computers with wireless headphones to watch survivor testimonies, utilize a Holocaust encyclopedia, and research images and films linked to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. It also includes a flat-screen television that plays continuous film clips from the Holocaust period, historical newspapers, Nazi propaganda material, Holocaust research books, and original artifacts from Nazis and their prisoners. In addition, an endowed fund has been established to provide resource materials, maintenance of the room, and support related to special events. For Craig and Barbara Weiner, their dream of creating a space in South Florida dedicated to Holocaust education led them to the NSU Alvin Sherman Library. Their relationship with NSU began in the 1980s when Barbara Weiner earned her B.S. in Elementary Education at NSU, and their children attended NSU University School. Their son later graduated from NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. Craig Weiner is also a member of NSU’s Ambassadors Board. “Barbara and I could not be happier, nor more honored, than to be a partner with this outstanding university,” said Craig Weiner. n HOLOCAUST REFLECTION AND RESOURCE ROOM OPEN HORIZONS FALL 2015 IN THIS ISSUE: SAVING THE PLAYERS • MIAMI CAMPUS • TACKLING ADDICTION • NEW LEADERS Decade A Stage on the NSU’sperformingartsprogram celebrates its10thyearofbringing qualityproductions to theuniversity and the community.
