11 NSU HORIZONS It all began with a small Broward thrift shop in an old railroad car, previously a diner. A group of civic-minded young women opened the shop to provide quality goods for South Florida’s poorer residents. When money came in, they and other fund-raisers helped this women’s group—the Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale—establish a day-care center for working mothers and a clinic for mental health, now Henderson Behavioral Health. The League’s next big project was the Fort Lauderdale Art Center, which developed into the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, which is now the NSU NSU ART MUSEUM FORT LAUDERDALE COMBINES ACADEMICS WITH WORLD-CLASS EXHIBITIONS BY JOHN DOLEN Artful EDUCATION
