4 | M.D. Program NSU MD OVERVIEW PURPOSE NSU MD’s mission is to advance human health through innovation in medical education, research, patient care, and community engagement using a patient-, student-, and community-centered approach. VISION NSU MD will become an exemplary medical college, internationally recognized for excellence, by fostering an innovative culture that supports diversity, collaboration, critical thinking, and creative leadership. CORE TENETS Medical Education—Developing Physician Leaders Ready for a real challenge? NSU MD is different from any other medical school program. You’ll learn the science of medicine—but we don’t stop there. You’ll also master critical thinking, build your diagnosis and detective skills, and interact with the patients at the center of every case. Clinical Excellence—Partnering with Clinical Leaders NSU MD prioritizes pairing you with clinical leaders, ensuring you receive significant hands-on practice throughout the program. Spending more time learning directly from experienced academic and community physicians, rather than in a classroom, provides you with a better understanding of medicine specialties and subspecialties, as well as the real-world challenges and opportunities within each. Research—Pushing the Boundaries of Science NSU MD emphasizes collaboration as a key to advancing human health. We partner with scientists world-wide in our efforts to develop improved treatment options for patients. Community Engagement—Establishing a Healthy Ecosystem to Elevate Our Community We believe it is our responsibility to help establish a healthy ecosystem in South Florida by giving people the tools and knowledge to help them live healthier, longer, and better. We will educate by partnering and pooling resources with key stakeholders throughout the community. This approach will have far-reaching economic, health, and social benefits. We have begun to work with officials from leading health care providers and commu- nity organizations to develop a better understanding of the health care needs of South Floridians. Through our consortium approach, we aim to magnify the positive impact on community and global health.
