Today, our 413-bed acute-care hospital in Columbus, Georgia, meets the health and medical needs of a diverse commu- nity with a wide array of services—many of which are available nowhere else in the region. As one of only six regional perinatal centers in the region, Midtown Medical Center is entrusted with the care of infants from 27 counties in Georgia and Ala- bama. Midtown Medical Center also provides ad- vanced emergency services across 13 Georgia counties as a Level 2 trauma center, and a com- prehensive range of rehabilitation services includ- ing physical, occupational, and speech recovery. In 2013, a separate Pediatric Emergency Depart- ment was established. The John B. Amos Cancer Center is a compre- hensive, multidisciplinary cancer center accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American Col- lege of Surgeons—the only such treatment center in the Columbus, Georgia, service area. The Children’s Hospital at Midtown Medical Center serves women across their lifespans and children from birth through age 21 in an exceptional manner. Midtown Medical Center currently serves as one of only six regional perinatal centers in Georgia, providing critical care to infants from 21 surrounding counties. Both the High Risk Nursery (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and Special Care Nursery are equipped to provide an advanced level of treatment. Midtown Medical Center also is home to the region’s only dedicated pediatric program, including a full-service Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The special needs of children and their families are addressed through unique décor designed to put children at ease, private and semi- private rooms, specialized rooms for oncology patients, and amenities for family members. A child-life specialist eases the trauma a hospital visit can cause for a child or family members. Midtown Medical Center has been home to its Family Medicine Residency Program since 1972. The nationally recognized program, which was the first of its kind in Georgia and one of the first in the Southeast, has graduated more than 300 family physicians. INSTITUTIONAL INFORMATION
