Lakeside Medical Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services, obstetrics, pediatrics, general surgery, radiology (including CT, MRI/MRA, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and mammography), and respiratory therapy. The hospital treats over 33,000 patients a year and serves the rural, agricultural region bordering Lake Okeechobee in western Palm Beach County. The Health Care District of Palm Beach County, a com- prehensive safety-net health care system created by voters in 1988, owns and operates Lakeside Medical Center. It is the county’s only public hospital. Patient Satisfaction and Quality In 2011, the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems rec- ognized Lakeside Medical Center for achieving above-average scores in pa- tient satisfaction, including the highest possible scores in 5 out of 10 areas. In 2012, The Joint Commission designated Lakeside Medical Center a Top Per- former on Key Quality Measures TM 2011 for surgical care and for treating heart failure and pneumonia. Lakeside Medical Center was one of seven hospitals in Palm Beach County to earn this distinction. Only 18 percent of the over 3,400 hospitals in the nation that reported their data to The Joint Commission re- ceived the Top Performer designation. Family Medicine Primary care physicians and specialists together provide comprehensive and continuing health care for the individual and the family across all ages. In July 2011, the hospital inaugurated a new Family Medicine Residency Program for 15 resident physicians through a partnership with Nova Southeastern Univer- sity’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Consortium for Excellence in Med- ical Education, the Palm Beach County Health Department, and other community organizations. In June 2013, the program graduated its first class of residents. Women’s Health Lakeside Medical Center offers enhanced women’s health services, including primary care, maternal and child care, and bone densitometry to help women through all stages of their personal health. The hospital offers technologically ad- vanced digital mammography screenings for earlier detection of breast cancer. Neonatal and Pediatrics A dedicated team of specialists provides neonatal (newborns up to 28 days old) and pediatric (infants, children, and adolescents) hospitalist services onsite, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year.
