24 • A chapter shall not sell alcoholic beverages to members or guests by selling tickets or cups, by charging admission fees, by taking up collections, or by other direct or indirect means of collecting monies from persons attending chapter functions. • No members, collectively or individually, shall purchase, serve to, or sell alcoholic beverages to anyone under the legal drinking age. • No chapter may co-sponsor or co-finance a function where alcohol is purchased by any of the host chapters, groups, or organizations. • No member shall permit, tolerate, or participate in drinking games. • Social Greek-lettered organizations cannot advertise social events to the public since they are closed functions. In addition, invitations to guests cannot advertise alcohol and should display the following information: “Beverages will be available. Must have valid state issued picture identification for verification of age.” • All events involving alcohol may last for no more than four hours. From Sunday through Thursday, events must end by 10:00 PM and events held Friday and Saturday must end no later than 2 AM. For the last 30 minutes of the event, only non-alcoholic beverages may be served. • An adequate amount of food and alternative beverages (such as water, juice, assorted sodas, coffee, and teas) must be available throughout the duration of the event. These will be provided at the cost of the organization(s) holding the event. The amount of food and beverages appropriate for the size of the event will be determined by the Fraternity and Sorority Life Office. • One person from each organization (executive board member, social chair, or risk management chair) must be at the entrance of the function with a roster of the chapter members and the guest list to ensure that uninvited guests do not enter the function. In addition, the organization must always have six (6) sober monitors at the event. Sober monitors are not to consume any alcoholic beverage before or during the approved event. • The third-party vendor must provide an ID checker. Students 21 years and older must present proper identification at the party entrance to obtain a wristband. Wristbands are the only acceptable method of identifying students of a legal drinking age. • The GA For Fraternity and Sorority Life Programming and/or their designee, must be present for the duration of an event where alcohol is served, whether the event is on or off campus. Fraternity and Sorority Life Glossary Active: An initiated member of a Greek organization who is currently enrolled as an undergraduate student. Alumna: A sorority member who is graduated from the university and is no longer a student. Plural is alumnae. Alumnus (“Alum”) : Member of a fraternity who has graduated. A fraternity member who graduated from the university and is no longer a student. Plural is Alumni. Bid: An invitation to join a fraternity or a sorority. Bid matching: A system for matching the choices of potential new members with the choices of the chapters. Brother: An initiated member of a fraternity.
