All NSU students and employees receive a free membership to the museum, and faculty members use it as an essential resource for teaching. The museum’s popular NSU Lecture Series offers public access to the university’s esteemed faculty. Located in the center of South Florida’s art coast— which extends from Miami to the Palm Beaches—the museum is a vibrant nexus of art, creativity, culture, and expression. A short walk from the shops, restaurants, and galleries of Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale’s Arts and Entertainment District, the museum’s galleries allow you to find pieces from well-known artists like Frida Kahlo and Frank Stella, while discovering today’s talents and exploring groundbreaking, thematic exhibitions. Past exhibitions have highlighted Italian fashion and Mexican modernism. The museum’s exceptional collection—which includes the largest holdings of the American modern artist William Glackens, the most comprehensive compilation of the European avantgarde Cobra art movement in the United States, and an impressive selection of Latin American art—distinguishes the institution worldwide. The museum is home to Surrounded Islands. The documentation exhibition of this monumental artwork, created by the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude for Miami’s Biscayne Bay in 1983, was donated to the museum by The Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation (exhibition on view through March 2026).
