2024 FACT BOOK 87 PH.D. AND D.M.F.T. DEGREES The Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy program prepares graduates for careers as professors, researchers, supervisors, and senior clinicians. NSU’s Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy degree is fully accredited with the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). During the Ph.D. program, students may also fulfill the academic requirements for becoming a clinical member and approved supervisor in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. The program’s supervision course meets the supervision course requirement for AAMFT-approved supervisors. For licensed marriage and family therapists, additional training and supervision to become AAMFT-approved supervisors is provided through NSU’s Brief Therapy Institute. NSU’s Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy (D.M.F.T.) program results in a practitioner-oriented terminal degree. The primary emphasis of the D.M.F.T. degree program is different from the Ph.D. program in that it seeks specifically to produce professionals whose chief contributions will be in the clinical rather than academic sphere. There is some overlap in the core curriculum between the two programs. During the D.M.F.T. program, students may also fulfill the academic requirements for becoming a clinical member and approved supervisor in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The program’s supervision course meets the supervision requirement for the AAMFT-approved supervisor designation. MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMS The Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) Program is an accredited, graduate-level program designed to prepare students to define, critically assess, and resolve public health problems. The program provides training in the theories, concepts, and principles of public health, as well as their application. To meet the rapidly changing needs of health service professionals, the curriculum is structured to accommodate a diversity of backgrounds and individual career goals. The M.P.H. program offers a general Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree, which requires a minimum of 42 credit hours of study. Coursework may be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. M.P.H. students are required to complete their course of study within five years of matriculation. The degree can be completed on-site or online. Online and on-site classes are offered in the evening, with each class generally scheduled one evening per week. An orientation is scheduled prior to each semester and is required for both online and on-site students prior to matriculation into the program. Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 to remain in good academic standing. Graduating students have the opportunity to participate in a commencement exercise in May of each year. An exit survey must be completed prior to graduation. The Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Master of Science (M.S.) in Health Informatics degree has grown extensively since its inception in 2006 and is now recognized as a leading program in both national and international arenas. The 36-credit program is designed to train future leaders in the development, dissemination, and evaluation of information technology as it relates to the healthcare environment, such as hospitals and health systems, health information technology sys- tem vendors, ehealth companies, insurers, pharmaceutical companies, and academic institutions. This is done through a combination of required core courses (27 credits) and elective courses (9 credits) to yield a diverse and fundamental program of study. With its focus on clinical informatics, the program’s curriculum emphasizes the areas of computer and information science and its clinical applications in medical informatics, management, and program evaluations in health information technology. This innovative program uses both on-campus and online formats to enable working professionals to earn a master’s degree in health informatics without career disruption. The program also offers graduate certificate courses (18 and 15 credits) in public health informatics and medical informatics.
