The final year of the curriculum is composed of full- time pharmacy practice experiences where students gain hands-on experience in diverse areas of pharmacy practice, including patient care management, clinical pharmacy, medication therapy management, and pharmacy administration. International pharmacy graduates have the opportunity to enter the Pharm.D. program with advanced standing. This allows them to build upon their pharmacy education and prepare them for clinical pharmacy practice. Students are prepared for the North American Pharmacist Licensing Examination (NAPLEX) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE). In addition, students in Puerto Rico are prepared for the Puerto Rico Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (Examen de Jurisprudencia en Farmacia). Eligible Pharm.D. students can complete a concurrent degree (a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Science in Health Informatics, or a Master of Public Health) while completing the Pharm.D. degree. These degrees are offered in conjunction with the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship and the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, respectively. NSU’s COP gives students the edge in pharmacy education. M.S. DEGREES The Master of Science (M.S.) in Pharmaceutical Sciences is a two-year program in one of three unique areas of emphasis: (1) Molecular Medicine and Pharmacogenomics centering on drug discovery principles, (2) Drug Development (Pharmaceutics) focusing on drug delivery to the desired target, or (3) Social and Administrative Pharmacy concerned with the interface between pharmacy and society. The Master of Science (M.S.) in Pharmaceutical Affairs is a one-year program designed for those interested in the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the health care and biomedical fields. Both programs prepare students for positions in academia, as well as managerial or sales positions in the pharmaceutical industry, contract research organizations, managed care organizations, the health care system, and government agencies. The degrees also prepare students interested in pursuing a Pharm.D. or Ph.D. degree. PH.D. DEGREE The College of Pharmacy offers a unique program of graduate study and research leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Students choose from one of three sequences: (1) Social and Administrative Pharmacy, (2) Molecular Medicine and Pharmacogenomics, or (3) Drug Development (Pharmaceutics). The social and administrative pharmacy sequence focuses on coursework and research skills that address the dynamic and complex nature of the use and distribution systems. Students choose one of two sections: (1) sociobehavioral and cultural pharmacy or (2) pharmacy economics and outcomes. The Molecular Medicine and Pharmacogenomics sequence emphasizes laboratory research and the development of research skills integral to elucidation of the mechanism of action of drugs, as well as the extent and characteristics of those actions. The Drug Development (Pharmaceutics) sequence emphasizes the development of laboratory research skills and supporting coursework integral to the theory and practice associated with the incorporation of drug entities into the forms and formulations to achieve the most effective delivery of drugs to the site of biological and medical action. Students are advised by faculty members in each specific sequence who are experts in pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, and/or pharmacy administration. Upon completion of the Ph.D. program, students will demonstrate the knowledge base expected at the Ph.D. level in their specialty, design and conduct independent research that adds to the understanding of their specialty, prepare and
