Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice (FCESCJ) includes the School of Criminal Justice and the departments of Education and Human Services. The college offers a comprehen- sive variety of programs of study within the fields of educational leadership and teacher preparation, leadership, substance use and health disparities, criminal justice, human services, recreational therapy, child protection, and developmental disabilities. At its Center for Applied Research on Substance Use and Health Disparities (ARSH), the college has grant-funded research and outreach programs focused on some of today’s most urgent social challenges. Instruction is offered through high-quality, distance education perfected through more than 40 years of expert practice and delivery. FCESCJ serves more than 3,500 students annually—throughout the U.S. and in many international locations, including the Americas and the Caribbean. The college maintains a strong commit- ment to providing community outreach services to students, educators, children, and families on both local and international levels. Its academic programs provide a wide range of educational options featuring customized program offerings to support student learning. Included are the Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.), Master of Human Services (M.H.S.), Educational Specialist (Ed.S.), Doctor of Education (Ed.D.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Additional programs provide teacher certification/recertification. Through diverse methods of delivery that are site-based, field- based, online, and campus-based, FCESCJ’s degrees and specializations/concentrations are designed to meet the unique needs of individual students, school systems, and organizations. All undergraduate and graduate programs are taught by a distinguished group of highly qualified, full-time and adjunct faculty members and educational researchers. SCHOOL OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE Programs include B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees and a minor in Criminal Justice. The B.S. in Criminal Justice explores the questions surrounding crime, punishment, and rehabilitation and examines the theoretical basis of criminal justice. The M.S. provides students with a strong core curriculum and allows for specialty training through concentrations focused on key issues within the field, in- cluding legal perspectives, behavioral science, substance abuse, and strategic community planning. This multidis- ciplinary structure facilitates choice for students and fosters specialized expertise. The Ph.D. opens opportuni- ties in the areas of research, academia, and management to those who are ready to advance their careers. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Programs include B.S., M.S., Ed.S., and Ed.D. degrees. The B.S. degrees in the education field are for students whose career goals include becoming P–12 classroom teachers. FCESCJ offers Elementary Education with ESOL/Reading Endorsements and Exceptional Student Education with an ESOL Endorsement, which are both accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). In addition, The Fischler Academy offers these programs, as well as Secondary Biology Education, Secondary English Education with ESOL Endorsement, Secondary Mathematics Education, and Secondary Social Studies Education programs designed to shape aspiring educators into teacher leaders. These programs align directly with the Florida Department of Education’s certification requirements. Fischler Academy students can complete both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in four years, in the 3 + 1 program. An undergraduate major in education with a concentration in computer science education, as well as minors in education, physical education, and military science and leadership (ROTC) are also available.
