One of the contrasts between Nova Southeastern
University and the Florida state university system is the
age of the students. The difference in age frequently
spans approximately 10 years. Both the average age of
students currently enrolled (Table 11) and their age
at time of graduation (Table 14) clearly indicate that
Nova Southeastern University serves predominantly
older, working adults. Accordingly, the university has
structured its academic programs and delivery systems
to meet the needs of this population.
In contrast, students pursuing degrees in the Florida
state university system are typically younger and follow
a more traditional educational progression in which
students enter college immediately after graduation from
high school. Some go on to pursue and obtain a graduate
or professional degree with little or no interruption.
