Attendance in lecture classes is described in the following paragraph. Policy Regarding Attendance in Lectures, Seminars, or Classes • Mandatory attendance requirement for lecture classes must be clearly stated in the respective course syllabus. If lecture class attendance is designated as ‘not mandatory,’ students are still responsible for all learning content in an ethical and professional manner. Course directors and/or supervising faculty member(s), or designee(s), are not obligated to repeat, record, post, disseminate, or reteach course content to students who elect not to attend class. This policy does NOT apply to class sessions where exams or quizzes are given. Attendance to class sessions in which exams or quizzes are given is mandatory. If lecture class attendance is designated as ‘mandatory,’ the Policy Regarding Unexcused Absences will apply. • Granting of excused absence(s) is at the discretion of the assistant dean of Admissions, Student Affairs and Services, and must also be communicated by the student to the course director, clinic director, or designee. Required supportive documentation is to be provided to the office of the assistant dean of Admissions, Student Affairs, and Services when the student is requesting excused absence(s), within three business days of the absence. • Students seeking excused absences shall communicate with the Office of Admissions, Student Affairs, and Services to request excused absences, within three business days of the absence, per CDM policies, documentation, and process. Time off for professional-related needs may be considered on an individual basis. The assistant dean of Admissions, Student Affairs, and Services determines, in the assistant dean’s sole discretion, whether an absence is considered excused. • Certain special circumstances that warrant extended leaves of absence may require the course directors and/or clinic director to consult with the Office for Academic Affairs. These include, but are not limited to − maternity leaves of absence − student externships − educational meetings authorized by the dean • For any absence, whether excused or unexcused, the student is responsible for making up all work that is missed.
