Students must use their NSU email and password to log on to their courses posted on Canvas. Canvas can be accessed through sharklearn. nova.edu. Students who are not registered and have not paid tuition on the first day of the term will be locked out of Canvas until tuition is paid. Distance Education Policy NSU and the CDM employ several student authentication processes across all NSU sites to protect student/resident privacy and ensure that all official student and faculty members face-to-face and distance education transactions are valid, reliable, and meet all the required privacy federal and local laws, such as FERPA. Violation of the information presented in this document and in the NSU University Computer and Telecommunications Use Policy (see section A.11 in the NSU portion of this handbook), which provides guidelines for the appropriate and inappropriate use of the computing resources of NSU, could result in the temporary or permanent denial of access to any and all NSU computing resources, and appropriate disciplinary actions may be taken, up to, and including, dismissal. The computing resources of NSU and the CDM are intended to be used for their programs of instruction and research and to conduct the legitimate business of the university. In addition to the policy contained herein, usage is in accordance with applicable state and federal laws. Among the more important laws are the Florida Computer Crimes Act, the Federal Computer Abuse Amendment Act 1994, the Federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act, and the U.S. Copyright Act. Moreover, the NSU Web Privacy Policy, updated April 19, 2018, acknowledges the privacy and recognizes the importance of students’ personal information. This privacy policy describes the NSU practices in connection with information NSU may collect when students access any nova.edu website (site). By using the NSU site, the student consents to the collection and use of the information described in this privacy policy, for example, name, address, or telephone number. A copy of the NSU Web Privacy Policy is available at nova.edu/privacy. html. NSU and the CDM employ technologies and/or applications for managing student and patient information, teaching, instruction, student assessment, and for building and managing online surveys and databases, and are covered under the NSU policy A.11 University Computer and Telecommunications Use Policy.
